YWCA Yorkshire – Providing a service for the Trans community

YWCA Yorkshire is a women’s charity that seeks to support, empower and advocate for women, children and families in South Yorkshire.

Most YWCA Yorkshire services are accessible to all genders, though some of our services and programmes have been developed specifically for women, and therefore only accessible to women. YWCA Yorkshire understands the intersectional oppressions that a transwoman may experience. This includes women with a trans identity who may be in abusive relationships that may have restricted them from coming out and identifying as a woman. We understand that a woman with a trans identity may not have felt safe to express their identity as a woman in many spaces, and we will take this into consideration when considering applications to women only domestic abuse programmes.

YWCA believes that all women are different, and we understand that treating all women the same does not mean an equitable service. Therefore, all applications to YWCA services will be looked at fairly, sensitively and on a case-by-case basis.

Thank you.
