Make Christmas Brighter with YWCA Yorkshire

This Christmas, you can help bring comfort and joy to women, children, and families rebuilding their lives across Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster. Every year, YWCA Yorkshire supports families facing homelessness, trauma and hardship. With your help, we can make sure no one feels forgotten this festive season.

There are three simple ways to give — all making a big impact.

 1. Donate to support a family

Every donation brings hope and dignity to the people we support, and your donation could help us to provide them with a Christmas to remember. Every donation will go towards our vital service which in turn will enable our families to receive the support they need at this time of year.

  • £50 could fund specialist support sessions for women escaping domestic abuse, giving them the tools and confidence to start a new chapter in the new year

  • £100 could help a mum and her child to have a warm, safe place to stay during the festive season, giving them comfort and security when they need it most

  • £250 could provide essential items such as food, toiletries and winter clothing for a family in our care, helping them to rebuild their lives

2. Buy from our Amazon Wishlist

Make giving easy and direct. Choose from our Amazon Wishlist of toys, gifts and essentials — and your purchase will go straight to a family in need.

Why It Matters

This time of year can be especially hard for women and families escaping crisis. Your support means more than gifts – it means safety, warms and a reminder that they are not alone.

Molly* was a young mother last Christmas and together with her daughter, they found themselves with nowhere permanent to call home. After fleeing domestic violence from her daughters’ father and experiencing a breakdown in relationship with her own parents, she had been moving from place to place, trying to keep them both safe, while holding onto hope for something more stable.

Just before Christmas, she was offered one of our fully furnished properties. For the first time in months, she could unlock her own front door, make a cup of tea in her own kitchen stocked with plates, pots, pans, and everything she needed, and tuck her daughter into bed knowing they finally had a home.

With the warmth of our community and the support of the YWCA Yorkshire and her allocated worker, she joined in our Christmas activities, decorating and connecting with others who understood the challenges of starting over. She was also supported to obtain food so she could prepare a Christmas dinner for her and her little girl. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, was able to celebrate the season thanks to a Christmas gift package, something special for both her and her little one.

It wasn’t just the presents that made a difference, but the feeling of belonging and being cared for. This Christmas, she didn’t just find a roof over her head —she found safety, stability, and the first steps towards a brighter future for her and her daughter.
