YWCA Yorkshire presents award to recognise excellence in volunteering
(L-R) Kerry McGrath, Nicole Cannon, Sue Butler and Elena Cooke
YWCA Yorkshire Volunteer Coordinator, Nicole Cannon, recently joined Voluntary Action Rotherham (VAR) in presenting the Rotherham Volunteer Management Award to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (SYFR).
Nicole joined Kerry McGrath, Volunteer Coordinator at VAR and Elena Cooke, Project and Programme Officer at Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council to present the award to Sue Butler, Volunteer Coordinator at SYFR.
Nicole Cannon uses her expertise and experience in volunteer management to add value to the VAR assessment panel and peer assess applications. The volunteer management award recognises good practice in volunteer management and processes.
The assessment panel were impressed with SYFR’s application for the award and how they demonstrated the management of their volunteer offer across a series of criteria. This included how open and accessible the organisations processes are to volunteers, the management and supervision of the volunteer programme, and focus on legal requirements such as health and safety and safeguarding.
What was evident in the application was how welcomed volunteers are to SYFR - volunteers are made to feel part of a team in whichever role they are in. This ensures that volunteers make the most of their time with SYFR, enhancing skills and taking part in new experiences in a supportive environment.
The award that was developed in 2014 is supported and funded by Rotherham Together Partnership and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council. It recognises good practice in volunteer management processes.
