YWCA Yorkshire Welcomes New Leader in Rotherham

Beverly Garbett, Project Manager

YWCA Yorkshire’s Fleming Gardens Project provides housing and wrap-around support to women, children & families in Rotherham. The charity is happy to announce the appointment of Beverly Garbett as Project Manager for a 12-month period to cover maternity leave. In this key leadership role, Beverly will oversee the charity’s services in Rotherham to continue and build on the excellent support provided.

Beverly brings a wealth of experience to the charity and to the role of Project Manager with a strong background in therapeutic counselling and project management. As a qualified counsellor, she has delivered free counselling, helpful conversations and bereavement group work through her own counselling business for the last three years.

Prior to running her own business, Beverly worked for Early Help as an Integrated Working Lead and has many years of experience of setting up and managing other vital help services, including supported accommodation for young women and girls experiencing multiple areas of disadvantage. As a qualified IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advisor), combined with her years of managing a domestic abuse floating support service, she offers invaluable knowledge and insight into the challenges that the people we support face.

Commenting on her recent appointment, Beverly said:

“I was beyond excited to accept the Project Manager role at Fleming Gardens and to join the charity at such a pivotal time.

“The work the project does with young people and families is nothing short of life changing. It feels a real privilege to be part of the team and continue to drive the outstanding work that takes place across Rotherham daily”.

Commissioned by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Fleming Gardens Project has been providing housing, parenting, relationship and life skills training and support for young women and their children since 2004. The service provides accommodation in 20 properties, ten within a cul-de-sac location in Flanderwell, and ten dispersed throughout the local area, providing accommodation and wrap-around support to these households. The expert team of Project Workers also deliver a tenancy support service to include support and training to a further 27 young women and families living in their own tenancies across the Rotherham area.

The work with young families typically includes budgeting, mental health and wellbeing support, parenting skills, domestic abuse support, managing a tenancy and access to education, training and employment.
